Tanager freshmen drop close match to Huskies

The Vermillion Tanagers were downed by the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 26-18 in girls' basketball Jan. 17 at home in a matchup that was close throughout.

"We need better execution and desire," said Vermillion freshmen coach Leah Bakke.

The Tanagers fell behind 5-0 after the opening period, trailed 10-6 at halftime, and then trailed 17-12 going into the final period.

The Vermillion freshmen saw their record fall to 1-2, while EP-J upped its mark to 3-1.

The Vermillion freshmen connected on 0 of 2 three-pointers and connected on 6 of 9 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 6 of 21 from the field, while EP-J was 11 of 26 from the field. EP-J connected on 0 of 2 three-point tries and hit 4 of 13 free throw tries.
