VHS had led by six after the third quarter.
"Our girls played great basketball for three-and-a-half quarters tonight," said VHS coach Jamie Parish. "After that point the inexperience and some tired legs started to hurt us. We give a great deal of credit to the girls from Parkston. They have several players that have been involved with their varsity program since the seventh and eighth grades. Those extra years of experience really pay off in a competitive game like tonight's. "We now sit at 1-3 but our girls have played quite well. Our three losses have come from teams that sit at the top of Class A. It's nice to know we can compete at such a high level; however we do need to finish some games and get a few marks in the win column. Our kids and our staff are all optimistic about the season; we will get back in the gym and continue to work hard and improve day by day, week by week, and hope to be playing our best bastketball at the end of February," he said.
VHS lost the game from three-point range, making 5 of 12 from long range compared with 16 of 22 for Parkston. The contest was well-played, with the Tanagers committing only 8 turnovers and the Trojans committing only 9.
