Tanagers lose control, drop match to Trojans
The Vermillion Tanagers put up a stiff fight for three quarters, but finally were downed by the West Central Trojans 60-49 in boys basketball Jan. 5 at Hartford.

The game had see-sawed back and forth until West Central took control for the win, after Vermillion varsity had led by four at halftime.

Andrew Pier scored 14 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made four assists.


The Tanagers trailed 12-11 after the first quarter, led 26-22 at halftime, and the score was knotted 41-41 after the third period.

"We played solid basketball for about three-and-a-half quarters," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "We need to learn to finish games. Our overall shooting needs to improve. I'm confident we will get better. The kids played better."

Vermillion saw its record fall to 1-3, while West Central upped its mark to 5-1.

Vermillion connected on 5 of 12 three-point attempts and sank 10 of 19 from the line. The Tanagers hit 17 of 38 field goal attempts, while West Central was 24 of 37 from the field.

West Central connected on 2 of 6 three-point attempts and sank 10 of 17 from the line.
