The Tanagers led 16-13 at the end of the first period, trailed 25-20 after the second period, and then trailed 39-31 after the third quarter.
The Tanagers committed only 7 turnovers, but still picked up the loss.
Both teams were sharp from three-point range, with the Tanagers 13 of 19 and the Westerners 4 of 8.
It's simple � we did not play our brand of basketball," said Vermillion coach Jason Huska. "We scored enough points to win but we just did not get it done defensively."
