Tanagers not ready for action with Huskies
The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 37-30 in boys' basketball Jan. 17 at home in a matchup that was close throughout.

"I thought Sam McBride played hard on both ends of the court," said Vermillion freshmen coach Eric VanLacken.

EP-J jumped in front 8-7 after the first quarter, and held an edge of 8-5 in the second quarter. Vermillion had an advantage of 12-11 in the third period to shave the deficit to only 27-24 going into the final period.

"Overall, I thought the guys needed to be ready to play before the game started," said coach VanLacken. "The kids just need to keep working hard and improving each day."

Vermillion stayed winless at 0-3, while EP-J is now 3-3.

The Vermillion freshmen sank 2 of 4 three-point attempts and sank 6 of 12 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 11 of 28 from the field, while EP-J was 16 of 30 from the field. EP-J hit 0 of 5 three-point tries and hit 5 of 7 free throw attempts.
