Tanagers roar back, defeat Lennox 42-37

The Vermillion Tanagers roared back in the fourth quarter to top the Lennox Orioles 42-37 in boys' basketball Jan. 13 at home in a win capped by a 23-7 fourth-quarter surge.

The Vermillion JV had trailed by 11 going into the final period.

Broc Gauer scored 13 points and made three assists. Mikal Ustad grabbed eight rebounds.

The Tanagers fell behind 13-6 after the opening period, trailed 15-13 at halftime, and then trailed 30-19 after the third quarter.

"We played with intensity and played hard versus a well-coached Lennox squad," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "We need to learn to play like this for an entire game."

Vermillion JV improved its record to 3-3, while Lennox dropped to 3-5.

Vermillion hit 1 of 5 three-pointers and hit 12 of 25 free throw attempts. The Tanagers sank 14 of 39 field goal attempts, while Lennox was 12 of 39 from the field. Lennox hit 0 of 6 three-point attempts and connected on 13 of 21 free throw tries.
