Trojans' rally too much for Tanagers
The Vermillion Tanagers ended up on the wrong side of a fourth-quarter rally and lost a tough one to the West Central Trojans 26-23 in boys' basketball Jan. 5 at Hartford.

Vermillion had led by two after the third quarter.

"The freshmen are coming around as they gain confidence with some success," said Vermillion freshmen coach Eric Vanlacken.


The Tanagers trailed 12-6 after the opening period, trailed 16-10 at halftime, and then held a lead of 19-17 going into the fourth quarter.

The loss dropped Vermillion freshmen to a record of 0-2, while West Central improved to 3-1.

Vermillion freshmen sank 1 of 4 three-point attempts and made 4 of 11 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 9 of 28 from the field, while West Central was 11 of 30 from the field. West Central made 2 of 6 three-point attempts and sank 2 of 5 free throw attempts.
