Vermillion debate squad is 2nd at Class 'A' event
The Vermillion Debate Squad traveled on Jan. 20-21 to Watertown to compete in the historic Speech Fiesta Tournament. Vermillion competed with over two dozen schools from three states.

In Novice Public Forum debate, the team of Maggie Green and Jane Reasoner received second place. Also competing in Novice Public Forum were Raleigh Tiahrt and Megan Amundson who had a successful record of 3-1.

In Novice Policy debate the team of Alicia Enterman and Jiwen Li received second place. Competing in Junior Varsity Policy debate, Monica Gutzman and Amanda Barton were semifinalists. In Varsity Policy debate, Molly Green and Hannah Pommersheim had a record of 2-3. Vermillion was also successful in individual events. In Varsity Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Hannah Pommersheim received second place and in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking, Amanda Barton received first place.

The Vermillion team as a whole placed second in class ?A' out of the 11 schools in that division. The debate squad will travel to Yankton on Jan. 28-29 to compete in the annual Lewis and Clark Tournament.

On Feb. 4, the team will host a tournament at the high school. Good luck to the squad as they finish out their season.
