"Our kids did a really nice job tonight earning a road win," said VHS coach Jamie Parish. "Any time that we can take a group of kids to Lennox and win a close game we are happy. Due to some injury problems, Brittany Bye and Paige Prosser were not available for most of the game. Our bench kids did a great job of filling their roles and playing out of position in several instances yet still contributing.
"We were most pleased with the poise that our girls showed in the fourth quarter when the game got tight. We were able to run a great deal of time off the clock with our offense and went 10-12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to finish up the game," he said.
VHS held onto the win from the free throw line, making 10 of 14 charity tosses to 2 of 5 for LHS. The Tanagers committed only 6 turnovers in the victory.
The Tanagers fell behind 12-10 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 23-17 at halftime, and then led 28-23 going into the fourth quarter.
VHS connected on 7 of 19 three-pointers. The Tanagers connected on 13 of 36 field goals, while LHS was 16 of 37 from the field. LHS connected on 3 of 12 three-point attempts.
