The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre will present Beth Henley's Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, Crimes of the Heart, Feb. 22-25 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
Henley sets the action in Hazelhurst, MS, where the three zany McGrath sisters have gathered to deal with a family crisis. Each sister is beset by troubles: Lenny has diminishing marital prospects, Meg has a failed singing career, and Babe is out on bail after shooting her husband in the stomach.
Though their troubles seem serious, Henley masterfully balances irreverent humor with the humanity of their plight to create a heartfelt yet hilarious story of survival.
Tickets to Crimes of the Heart are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $6 for youth and non-USD students, and $3 for USD students with valid ID. Reservations can be made by calling the University Theatre Box Office at 605-677-5400 or by stopping by the box office in the afternoons.
