Tanager varsity boys overpower Cubs 86-58
The Vermillion Tanagers overpowered the Alcester-Hudson Cubs 86-58 in boys' basketball Feb. 14 at home. The Tanagers shot 59 percent from the field in the contest.

Jeff Donnelly scored 32 points, grabbed nine rebounds, made six assists and four steals. Jordan Boots poured in 22 points, made three assists and five steals. Kyle Brunick added six points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Andrew Pier poured in 17 points, made three assists and four steals.

The Tanagers fell behind 14-13 after the opening period, led 46-31 after the second quarter, and then led 68-46 going into the fourth quarter.


"We started a little slow but our kids picked it up in the second quarter and got the job done," said Vermillion coach Jason Huska. "This was a good win for the seniors, especially since it was their last home game. Every team member got to play and I was happy with everyone's performance."

Vermillion improved its record to 7-9, while Alcester-Hudson dropped to 3-13.

Vermillion sank 5 of 14 three-point attempts and made 7 of 13 free throw attempts. The Tanagers made 37 of 63 field goal attempts, while Alcester-Hudson was 21 of 53 from the field. Alcester-Hudson connected on 10 of 26 three-pointers and sank 6 of 9 free throw tries.

Vermillion held a 40-25 edge on the boards.
