Tanagers drop close game to Trojans 33-32
The Vermillion Tanagers watched a big fourth-quarter lead disappear and dropped a close decision to the West Central Trojans 33-32 in girls' basketball Jan. 26 at Hartford.

The Vermillion freshmen had led by 10 going into the final period.

"The girls worked very hard this game," said Vermillion freshmen coach Leah Bakke. "They played better together on the offensive and defensive ends."

The game was knotted 7-7 at the end of the first period, the Tanagers went into the locker room up 16-14 at halftime, and then led 30-20 after the third period.

The loss dropped Vermillion freshmen to a record of 1-5, while West Central improved to 5-2.

Vermillion sank 4 of 7 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 14 of 33 field goals, while West Central was 15 of 38 from the field. West Central connected on 1 of 3 three-point attempts and hit 2 of 11 from the line.
