Tanagers pull away, shoot down Watchdogs
The Vermillion Tanagers pulled away in the second half to shoot down the Beresford Watchdogs 39-18 in boys basketball Jan. 31 at home in a win keyed by a 15-1 third-quarter run.

The Vermillion freshmen are now 2-5 this season.

Kyle Nemec and Tyler Steele played well on both ends of the court.

The Tanagers trailed 9-7 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 15-13 at halftime, and then led 30-14 going into the fourth quarter.

"Once we got some intensity, we played well," said Vermillion freshmen coach Eric VanLacken.

The Beresford season mark fell to 1-4.

The Vermillion freshmen connected on 1 of 5 three-point tries and sank 8 of 11 free throw tries. The Tanagers connected on 15 of 41 field goals, while Beresford was 6 of 24 from the field. Beresford connected on 1 of 4 three-point tries and made 5 of 10 from the line.
