The USD/Winona State winner will face the victor of the #4 Minnesota State, Mankato and #5 Nebraska-Kearney match-up at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 12. The North Central Regional title game will start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14.
Tickets for the regional will be general admission with no reserved seating available. Tickets may be ordered by calling the Winona State Ticket Office at 507-457-5210. Single-session tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children/students (age 2-college) and seniors (age 62 and over). A tournament pass will also be available at $24 for adults and $12 for students.
The South Dakota men's basketball team will be making its 11th appearance in the national playoffs, including eight under USD head coach Dave Boots. The Coyotes own a 17-9 overall mark in NCAA tournament play, including an 11-5 record in regional games. USD, which won a national title in 1958, owns a 4-3 record in the championship round of the national tournament.
USD and Winona State, which is ranked sixth in the nation, have not played this season. The Coyotes lead the overall series against the Warriors, 3-1, including 2-1 while Boots has been head coach at USD.
A year ago, USD and WSU split a pair of games, with Winona State taking an 81-70 decision on Dec. 28, 2004, at the Augustana Classic. The Coyotes knocked off the Warriors, 73-68, in the NCAA Division II North Central Regional semifinals on March 13, in Denver, CO, to advance to the regional finals. USD dropped an 89-84 decision in the regional finals to Metro State.
