Cubs fall to Tanagers in well-played contest
The Vermillion Tanagers beat the Alcester-Hudson Cubs 50-40 in boys' basketball Feb. 14 at home in a win keyed by a 19-6 second-quarter edge.

"We played very well," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "I was very happy with our performance."

The contest was well-played, with the Tanagers committing only 9 turnovers and the Cubs committing only 8.


The score was 12-all after the opening period, the Tanagers led 31-18 at halftime, and then held a lead of 44-26 going into the fourth quarter.

The Vermillion JV improved its season mark to 6-9, while Alcester-Hudson fell to 1-14.

Vermillion made 2 of 6 three-point attempts and hit 6 of 8 free throw attempts. The Tanagers made 21 of 53 field goals, while Alcester-Hudson was 16 of 48 from the field. Alcester-Hudson made 1 of 6 three-pointers and connected on 7 of 14 free throw tries.
