To the editor:
The Friends of the W.H. Over Museum are very pleased to have on display the prestigious American Rivers traveling exhibit "Discovering the Rivers of Lewis and Clark." The grand opening for the exhibit will be March 4 at 4 p.m. A light supper will be provided for a $10 donation.
The exhibit arrived in Vermillion from Washington the week of Feb. 13 and will be on display for several months. The Friends are very proud to have an exhibit of this stature at the Museum and would like to invite everyone to visit the museum if not on March 4, find a good day to come and stop in!
If you haven't visited the Over Museum recently, we would like to invite you to come and enjoy the wonderful treasures that call our museum and Vermillion "home" and share in the pride we have in this wonderful facility.
I hope to see many of you on March 4.
With warm regards,
Friends of the W.H. Over Museum
Support increase to tobacco tax
To the editor:
Recently our state lawmakers failed to pass legislation that would raise tobacco taxes. Did they not realize that South Dakota spends $252 million on health care directly related to tobacco usage? The revenue from the present cigarette tax is slightly over $27 million. This obviously is NOT good business practice! However, in November voters will decide this issue.
Additional revenues from a cigarette tax increase will benefit quit smoking programs, education, the state health care trust fund, and property tax relief. The damages of tobacco products are well documented.
We must be accountable for the expenditure of our limited resources as well as provide for additional income. Quality of life as well as financial integrity relies on this vote. Please support the dollar per pack increase.
