Poker Alice at Gayville March 25

The Poker Alice Band returns to Gayville Hall with its vast repertoire of western swing, country, blues and old-time classics for an 8 p.m. concert on Saturday, March 25, with country-western singer Brenda George of Avon.

George sang with Poker Alice in the late 1980s before heading to Nashville and was reunited with the band two years ago for a concert at Gayville Hall that was recorded for a CD, as yet unreleased.

Nick Schwebach, of rural Wakonda, who sings and plays lead guitar, co-founded Poker Alice about 20 years ago. Fiddler Owen DeJong of rural Wakonda joined the band after returning from Nashville, where he had performed several years with The Travelin' Band.

Bassist and singer Larry Rohrer joined the band in 1989 after moving to the Vermillion area to be program director at South Dakota Public Radio. The other band members are Dennis Jensen of rural Beresford on guitar, vocals and keyboards, and Al Remund of Lennox on drums.

Gayville Hall is at 502 Washington Street in Gayville. Reserved seats cost $12.50. Call the box office at 605-267-2859. Tickets are $10 at the door.
