Race developing in city election
A race is developing in the June 6 Vermillion City Council election.

According to City Finance Officer Mike Carlson, Judy Clark began circulating nominating petitions in the Southeast Ward.

If she is successful in collecting enough signatures by the April 4 deadline, her name will be on the ballot as a challenger to incumbent Alderman Ray Hofman. Hofman began circulating petitions March 1, and filed them with Carlson's office March 6.

It appears that all city council incumbents up for election plan to seek another term. Mayor Dan Christopherson filed petitions with Carlson on March 2. Central Ward Alderman Mary Edelen and Northwest Ward Alderman Jack Powell also have filed petitions.

As of March 1, Northeast Ward Alderman Kent Osborne had begun circulating petitions, but as of March 21, had not yet filed them.
