Softball team records sweep of Sioux Falls
Led by senior shortstop Kerri Starcevich, the South Dakota softball team swept a doubleheader from Sioux Falls by scores of 8-4 and 2-1, at the DakotaDome on Friday night. With the two wins, USD improved to 12-12 on the season. Sioux Falls dropped to 1-5.

Starcevich had a game-winning RBI double to lead USD to a 2-1 win in the second game. USD scored seven runs in the first three innings and took an 8-4 decision in the first game of the doubleheader.

In the doubleheader, Krystal Kirwan (Omaha, NE) hit .667 with two hits in three at bats and also had three walks and an RBI. Freshman Tagney Jones (Lincoln, NE) had three hits in five trips to the plate with two runs scored and two walks while also picking up the pitching win in game two. Starcevich (Monroe, IA) had three hits in six at bats with three RBI. Sarah Wrage (Cherokee, IA) also had three hits in six trips to the plate with a stolen base.


Alisha Yowell (Omaha, NE) improved to 5-6 on the season by pitching a complete game victory in the first game. She allowed four runs on nine hits and recorded nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.

In game two, Jones improved to 5-4 with a complete game performance. She allowed just one run on nine hits with five strikeouts.
