Henny Penny, the Bremen Town Musicians, and the Golden Goose will be brought to life by University Theatre in Story Theatre, adaptations for the stage of stories from the Grimm Brothers' Collection and Aesop's Fables.
"This play is a celebration of the stories of our childhood the tales that are passed down from generation to generation," says graduate student director Aaron Paschall.
Performances are March 22-25 at 8 p.m. and March 26 at 2 p.m. in the Arena Theatre of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Adapted by Paul Sills, Story Theatre provides audiences an imaginative and entertaining evening of theatre that includes lessons the whole family will appreciate.
The Story Theatre artistic team is composed principally of graduate students.
Paschall (Greeley, CO) directs the action while Emily Forsman (Brady, MT), Shandi Walnofer (Chambers, NE), and Aaron Laudermith (Huron) design the setting, costumes, and sound, respectively. Emily Staloch (Albert Lea, MN), an undergraduate student, designs the lighting.
The cast includes Regina Aerts (Malcolm NE), Dacia Dick (Philip), Ryan Henderson (Rapid City), Megan Huber (Belle Fourche), Mike Husby (Sioux Falls), Amanda Johnson (Sioux Falls), Philip Johnson (Yankton), Avalon Kann (McGregor, IA), Shane Sather (Watertown), Kyra Tietjen (Milbank), Lia Trave (Pine Ridge), and Kyle Wasserman (Chamberlain).
Each of the cast members plays multiple roles in a number of the performed adapted tales.
Tickets to Story Theatre are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens (62+), youth and non-USD students, and $3 for USD students with ID. The box office will be open in the afternoons beginning Monday, March 20.
As seating is limited, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling the University Theatre box office at (605) 677-5400.
