USD softball splits with Northern State, 1-0, 6-1
The South Dakota women's softball team (5-11) split a double header with in-state foe Northern State (2-10) by falling 1-0 in the first game and bouncing back with a 6-1 win in the second game, March 17 in the DakotaDome.

The first game was a pitching gem as USD's Alisha Yowell, a senior from Omaha, NE, and the Wolves' Lisa Koehler each pitched a complete game and combined to allow just six hits.

Yowell, who fell to 2-6 on the season, didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning and struck out three batters on the evening.

Koehler picked up the win by striking out two batters and walking one.

In the second game, USD avenged its loss by pounding out four runs in the bottom of the second inning and tacking on one run in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Tagney Jones (2-3) pitched a complete game and scattered four hits, while striking out five batters and walking two.
