Be Fit, Eat Right, Be Healthy Health Fair
The small gym at Wakonda Public School was full of excitement on Monday, April 3, as approximately 280 people learned more about the importance of physical activity, and how to make healthy food choices while attending the Be Fit, Eat Right, Be Healthy Health Fair.

All of the students K-12 at Wakonda Public School, students K-7 from Irene Public School, along with community members attended the event.

The health fair featured educational displays created by the elementary students, FACS students, and FCCLA members. Visitors at the health fair were able to taste a variety of fruits, whole grain cereals, and meatballs made with buffalo; as well as attempt to match the amount of fat in various fast foods and the amount of sugar in a variety of beverages.

For the past two months K-12 students at Wakonda Public School have been learning about the importance of physical activity and how to use My Pyramid as a guide to eating right through lessons and activities made possible with resources from a Team Nutrition grant. The health fair allowed the students to demonstrate what they learned through the lessons and activities.

Local FCCLA members Megan Book, Brittaney Schroeder, and Casey Hessman will be reporting on how this project was planned, conducted, and evaluated at the state FCCLA Leadership meeting in Sioux Falls April 23-25.
