Construction season begins
The reconstruction of Dakota Street from Main Street to Cherry Street began Tuesday, April 18.

The intersection of Dakota Street and Main Street is now closed. Dakota Street will also be closed from the Dakota Street and Main Street intersection north to the south line of the Clark Street and Dakota Street intersection. The intersection of Dakota Street and Clark Street will remain open at this time.

The intersection of Main Street and Dakota Street will be temporarily closed while sanitary sewer lines are installed. This intersection work is anticipated to last approximately a week. A temporary driving surface will be installed and the intersection reopened. The intersection will again be closed for water line, storm sewer and concrete installation.


East � West traffic for the Dakota Street and Main Street intersection will temporarily be detoured around Harvard Street, National Street and Elm Street. The National Street intersection will remain open while the Main Street and Dakota Street intersection is closed. Parking will be removed along National Street and Harvard Street while the temporary detour is in place.

The businesses along Main Street will be accessible from Main Street at all times. Dakota Street from Main Street to Chestnut Street will be inaccessible to through traffic during the first phase of the project.

The reconstruction project involves the removal of the existing surface and underground utilities. New sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water lines will be installed. A new concrete, three lane concrete street surface will be installed.

The first phase of construction is from the south side of Main Street to the south side of Clark Street. The first phase is expected to take three to four months to complete. The second phase of the project is to reconstruct Dakota Street from the south side of Clark Street to the south side of Cherry Street. Final completion of the project is scheduled for Nov. 1.

Detours will be established for both phases of the project. Crawford Road, Stanford Street and Main Street will be utilized for truck route detours.
