Orchestra, choirs to present free concert May 1 at USD

The USD Symphony Orchestra, USD Chamber Singers, and USD Concert Choir will give a free concert May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Slagle Auditorium on the USD campus.

The all-Mozart concert, honoring the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth, will feature violin soloist Elisabeth Heinrichs, a winner of the orchestra's annual concerto competition, in the G Major Violin Concerto.

The three groups will combine for the Coronation Mass, with student soloists sopranos Amanda VandeZande and Gina Mees, mezzo soprano Amber Stephens, tenor Michael Bossman, and bass Christopher Larson.

Also on the program are a quartet for flute, violin, viola and cello; and the Ninth Symphony, composed when Mozart was only 13 years old.
