The award is designed to make students and community more aware of local service opportunities by high- lighting an organization's mission, services provided and volunteer opportunities available.
The recycling center was selected for this honor because of the importance of their service and dedication to the community.
"The Missouri Valley Recycling Center is an invaluable resource and necessity in this community. The service they provide is not only important, but more complicated than most people assume. We felt it was important for them to be recognized for their dedication to environmental conservation and dedication to the local communities," said AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America member Sara Shaffer.
Nearly half of all trash is recyclable; a large percentage, that with a little bit of effort, can be greatly minimized. The mission of the Missouri Valley Recycling Center is to offer local communities a location to fulfill all their solid waste recycling needs. This recycling center accepts recyclables such as plastics, aluminum, tin and a variety of paper products. The center also offers a paint exchange, where leftover paint is donated and made available for community members. The recycling center is free of charge and open to the public.
The Missouri Valley Recycling Center is located at 840 Crawford Road in Vermillion. It is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
