Dan Tolsma of the South Dakota men's track and field squad set a school and state of South Dakota record in winning the hammer throw at the Morningside Open, which opened March 31 in Wayne, NE.
Tolsma, a senior from Vermillion, tossed the hammer 184'11 which crushes his own mark of 181'10 set a year ago. Tolsma won the competition with a throw that is a high provisional mark for the NCAA Division II nationals.
Aside from Tolsma, USD's Mark Liebl, a senior from Menno, finished second in the javelin with a throw of 184'5.
