Born in Alcester, Behrens lived there until age eight when her family moved to rural Lincoln County, and she went on to graduate from Alcester High School. Behrens now resides in Lake Forest, IL, where she is active in Chicago area galleries and has juried art shows and fairs. Her work is included in private collections in the United States, England, and Australia. Behrens paints with plein-air groups and recently toured with artists in France working on scenes in Provence and Giverny.
Courtney Marshall, executive director of the Alumni Association at USD, expressed her support for the project and emphasized the importance of exposing the university community to fine work from alumni.
"The University of South Dakota has many distinguished alumni and the addition of the Heritage Gallery in the Wagner Center is one way to share the accomplishments of our talented graduates," Marshall said.
