Tyler Wetering, a junior from Sioux Falls, captured third in the men's 1,500-meter run with a clocking of 3:56.82. USD took two of the top-five places in the event as senior Nate Seier of Dubuque, IA, was fifth in 3:58.04.
Sophomore Terry Liggins of Omaha, NE, finished fourth in the men's 110-meter high hurdles in 14.43. Also for the men's team, Mark Liebl of Menno, was ninth in the men's discus with a throw of 152'03.
The USD women's 4×400-meter relay squad finished fourth in 3:47.35. In addition, the USD sprint medley relay was third in 3:58.29. The squad included freshman Janessa Filler of Crooks, senior Meghann Reifenrath of Rock Rapids, IA, freshman Laura Krell of Hartford, and senior Amber Stoltenburg of Elkton.
The South Dakota men's and women's track and field team, led by the men's distance medley relay, had a solid outing April 21 at the Kansas Relays.
The men's distance medley relay team, consisting of senior Nate Seier (Dubuque, IA), sophomore Josh Jeffery (Spearfish), sophomore Scott Hargens (Sioux Falls), and sophomore Tyler Wetering (Sioux Falls), finished second overall and first among collegiate competition in a time of 10:02.48. Winning the event in 10:00.83 was an unattached team of professional runners.
Also on the men's side, senior Matt Dewald (Yankton) placed sixth in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 9:40.82.
The USD women's 4×400 meter relay team of junior Steph Gebhart (Elkton), junior Heidi Muellenberg (Redfield), senior Kassy Laber (Parkston), and senior Kiki Smith (Wahpeton, ND) qualified for the finals by completing the event in 3:46.32. The women's 4×100 meter relay team finished 10th in the prelims in a time of :47.50, just missing the finals. Members of the relay team include senior Amanda Adamson (Yankton), freshman Janessa Filler (Crooks), freshman Lauren Krell (Sioux Falls) and Muellenberg.
