In the first game, South Dakota scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning and held North Dakota in the top of the seventh inning to win its first conference game of the season.
Senior Alisha Yowell (Omaha, NE) led off the sixth inning with a walk and stole second to move into scoring position. With two outs, sophomore Abby Poulter (Colfax, IA) bunted and as she reached first base, the fielder covering the base dropped the ball on the throw, which allowed Yowell to score the go-ahead run.
The Coyotes scored first in the bottom of the second inning when senior Sarah Wrage (Cherokee, IA) reached on a bunt and scored on a single by Yowell after the fielder threw the ball away trying to make a play at third base.
North Dakota tied the game in the top of the sixth inning with an unearned run following two errors.
Wrage led the Coyotes, who had no extra base hits, with two singles, while Yowell and Poulter each had a hit.
Freshman Tagney Jones (Lincoln, NE) improved to 6-8 on the season as she scattered eight hits, allowed one run and recorded five strikeouts.
UND's Tara Peterson (8-8) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and notched 12 strikeouts, while walking two batters.
Game 2 � USD 7,
North Dakota 5
The Coyotes used a five-run fifth inning to come back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat UND, 7-5, thanks to a three-run HR from Wrage and a two-run shot by sophomore Krystal Kirwan (Omaha, NE).
After North Dakota's Cassie Hanson led off the game with a solo HR, USD tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Kirwan that scored Wrage, who started the inning with a double.
UND re-took the lead with a run in the top of the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning. North Dakota scored again in the fifth inning on a triple by Hayley Reid to score Hanson.
Then in the bottom of the fifth inning, Jones led off with a walk for the Coyotes, while Yowell walked to set-up Wrage's first-pitch HR, her second of the season.
After Mary Anderson (Rapid City) hit a single to right center, Kirwan blasted her second career HR to put USD ahead, 6-5.
USD, who was outhit by UND 10-7, added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to garner the sweep.
For the game, Wrage and Kirwan each finished with three RBIs, while going a combined 5-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored.
Jones (7-8), who relieved Yowell on the mound after 3 1/3 innings, pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and surrendered just one run on two hits to earn her second-straight win.
Michele Wolf pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for North Dakota and allowed five runs on five hits, while recording five strikeouts and four walks. However, Peterson was credited for the loss, as she allowed the go-ahead runs.
