Elena Caridad Perez wrote the grant for the Friends of the W.H. Over Museum as part of her master's degree program at Colorado Technical University Sioux Falls Campus.
The grant will provide additional video cameras and monitors which will give better coverage of public and work areas. Once additional cameras are mounted in the collections workroom, security in that area will be adequate to allow museum volunteers and supervised assistants to examine and photograph artifacts from the museum's collections while working on approved projects.
The grant will allow items in the Fallon collection to be photographed prior to and after they are exhibited this spring. Digital photography of the Fallon collection is part a grant project, currently in progress at the museum, funded by the Sheldon F. Reese Foundation which represents the first phase of establishing a virtual museum element for the museum's Internet site.
The Friends of the W.H. Over Museum is a non-profit, volunteer organization which was established in 1965 to provide financial and volunteer support for museum exhibits and activities. Today, the Friends organization is totally responsible for operating, maintaining, and financing the museum, its collections, and its activities and programs.
This grant represents another significant contribution to the museum's efforts to continue Dr. William Henry Over's legacy of preserving the natural and cultural heritage of this area and passing it on to present and future generations.
