The theme for this year's workshop is "Health and Well-being." All women of the area are invited to participate in the afternoon's activities.
The workshop, sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters, will feature as keynote speaker Mary Ann Wortmann, the 2003 Nebraska Mother of the Year. She will address the topic "Connecting the Dots in Our Journey as Women."
Wortmann, currently clinical coordinator of Avera Sacred Heart Home Care, is also very active in her Crofton community. She frequently speaks on the moral and spiritual foundations of the family and home.
Following the keynote address, participants will be able to participate in several breakout sessions. Wortmann will lead a session on "Health and the Family," in which she will focus on how a woman makes an impact on the health of her family and how her understanding of herself affects her relationship with her family and with others with whom she relates.
Rev. Linda Jorgenson, a recently ordained ELCA pastor, will chair a session on "Recharging the Soul." She will share ways to listen to God in our lives and will highlight the part spirituality plays in our lives.
Yankton County Extension Educator Sharon Guthmiller will lead a session titled "Take Time 4 You" in which she asks participants to take time for themselves and to reflect on the importance of the "Fours": nutrition, physical activity, budgeting, and celebration of the self.
A fourth session "Too Stressed to Reduce Stress?" will feature Angie O'Connor, mother of toddler twins and Clinical Exercise Specialist Supervisor at Avera Sacred Heart Wellness Center & HEALTHworks. She will explore how stress affects one's health and suggest how to fit a quick, easy, and inexpensive workout into every day.
During the afternoon, time will also be available for participants to visit booths and representatives from the following agencies: Big Friend Little Friend, Contact Center/Homeless Shelter, Share Iowa, Social Services/Adult Services and Aging, Southeast Job Link, Women's Shelter/Family Visitation Center, Parents as Teachers, Lewis and Clark Behavioral Health Services, and ASHH Wellness Center.
There is no charge for participating in the workshop. Free childcare will be provided for children 6 months to 10 years old. For further information, please contact the monastery receptionist at 668-6000.
