  • Dakota Street Construction – The reconstruction of Dakota Street from Main Street to Cherry Street began on Tuesday, April 18. For more information and updates, you can contact the city at info@cityofvermillion.com or call 677-7050. Anyone interested in receiving e-mail notifications about the Dakota Street reconstruction project is encouraged to e-mail the City of Vermillion at info@cityofvermillion.com.
  • Vermillion Jaycees Sand Box Fill Fund Raiser – It's that time of the year again to refill that sandbox or maybe that horse-shoe pit. Whatever the case, you can get your sand from the Vermillion Jaycees and help out the community at the same time. The Jaycees will be accepting orders until Wednesday, May 17, and deliveries will be made on Saturday, May 20. For more information or to order call Marcia at 624-4513.
  • Dinosaur exhibit and activities throughout May – Come to Vermillion Public Library to learn about dinosaurs during the month of May! Enjoy the Dinostories exhibit with more than 15 hands-on activities through Friday, May 26. There will also be weekly programs through Monday, May 22. For more information call 677-7060.

  • Builder's Club Community Leadership Dinner – The Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce & Development Company partnered with Dakota Hospital Foundation and Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center for this year's Builder's Club Community Leadership Dinner on Thursday, May 11 at the Al Neuharth Media Center. We celebrated more than 70 years of caring for the citizens of Vermillion and the surrounding area! Keynote speaker Frank Pastizzo delivered a powerful team-building and leadership message. Tom Lavin of Davis Pharmacy was honored for his 36 years of service as a pharmacist in Vermillion. Several scholarships were also awarded, and a brief report of the activities of Dakota Hospital Foundation was shared.
  • Brown Bag Lunch Program – On Friday, May 12 at 12:05 p.m., the National Music Museum presents "Music in the Air" performed by Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie of Silver City, NM. This show is free and open to the public.
  • University of South Dakota Commencement – The University of South Dakota Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the DakotaDome. Congratulations, USD students!
  • Referrals Over Breakfast – Are you looking for a way to get more business exposure? Then come to a "Referrals Over Breakfast" networking meeting on Friday, May 19 at the VCDC office beginning at 7:30 a.m. Please call 624-5571 to RSVP prior to Wednesday, May 17. Cost is $2 which covers rolls, juice and coffee.
  • The American Musical Instrument Society will hold its 35th annual meeting at the National Music Museum on the campus of The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, Friday, May 19 through Tuesday, May 23. The meeting, held in conjunction with the Galpin Society and the International Committee of Musical Instrument Museum and Collections of the International Council of Museums, is expected to be the best attended in the society's history, as colleagues from around the world make the trip to Vermillion to join in the celebration. Social events are also planned, beginning with a lavish welcoming reception on the National Music Museum Townsley Courtyard. A traditional South Dakota pig roast will be held outdoors Saturday evening under the tents on the National Music Museum lawn. The gala banquet, featuring the presentation of the Curt Sachs Award and the Densmore Prize, followed by the auction to raise funds for student travel, will be held at the Winery, a Vermillion landmark, where local wines can be sampled.
