Children's Choir begins auditions for 2006-07
Auditions for the Yankton Children's Choir (YCC) 2006-2007 season its 14th begin this month, and this year will include opportunities for singers ranging in age from third-graders through high school seniors.

Children and young people from Yankton and throughout the area, who will be in third- through eighth-grades this fall, are invited to try out for the YCC Preparatory and Concert Choirs.

Those auditions are scheduled for Thursday, May 18, and Friday, May 19, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, 5th and Walnut Streets, Yankton. Please use the west door of the education wing (on the alley), and follow the signs to the audition room.

Auditions are first come, first served no reservations will be taken and all singers must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian (no exceptions).

YCC Choral Director Lea Ann Schramm notes, "We make these auditions as comfortable as possible for the young singers. They'll only be asked to sing familiar songs and demonstrate their range and ability to remember a melody."

Local and area young people who will be in ninth through 12th grades in the fall are invited to try out for the YCC's Encore Choir, this year to be under the direction of former Yankton College and Mount Marty College music professor Eugene Brinkmeyer.

Auditions for this older group are scheduled for Friday, June 9, from 5 to 9 p.m., again at the UCC-Congregational Church. (Younger singers interested in the Preparatory and Concert Choirs may also take advantage of another opportunity to audition that same night.)

Encore Choir auditions do not require preparation of a solo; they will include exercises to test choral singing ability, and a demonstration of vocal range.
