The University of South Dakota School of Law and Dean Barry Vickrey have been named the recipients of the 2006 John Williams Award. The award, which is presented by the Native American�Recruitment & Retention�Committee, is given annually to a university individual, staff, faculty member, or program in recognition of their efforts for having gone above and beyond�in making�significant contributions to the�American Indian students at the university.
The award was presented on Friday, May 5, at a seniors honoring picnic in Vermillion which recognized the spring 2006 American Indian graduates of USD. The award was presented�by Dr. Wayne Evans to Associate Dean Tom Sorensen, who accepted on Vickrey's behalf. �
"Because I knew and respected John so much and because of the importance of the education of Native Americans, I consider this to be one of the greatest honors a person could receive," said Vickrey.
