Lyric Strings recital held
The violin and viola students of Karen Lipp and Professor John Thomson had their spring recital on Friday evening, May 5, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church. The recital included performers from very young beginners to advanced high school students and ended with the Bach Concerto in D minor for Two Violins, in which each violin part was played by a group of students and instructors.

At the conclusion of the program, a presentation was made to Sophie Stevens, a violinist from Yankton who has been a student of both Karen Lipp and John Thomson. Sophie was awarded an extra large gold cup after participating in the Junior Music Festival here in March.

The award is given for accumulating 60 points in the Junior Music Festival over a period of 12 years, performing both violin solos and concertos; she is the first student to have earned this cup for over 15 years.

The engraving on the cup was generously donated by Thorpe & Co. Jewelers of Sioux City, IA, one of the regions largest family-owned businesses. In conjunction with the cup, Sophie was also given a framed certificate from the Vermillion Music Club, which sponsors the Junior Music Festival.

Jessica Bogue was also given a small gold cup for receiving a superior rating in viola solo for three years, thus earning 15 points.
