Neighborhoods to share ideas during National Night Out

Neighborhoods to share ideas during National Night Out
Everyone in Vermillion is invited to participate in the 23rd annual National Night Out on Aug. 1.

National Night Out was introduced in 1984. The special night is an event to bring communities closer together to learn how they can help crime and drug prevention awareness. It involves the local police departments getting together with the communities, promoting a better understanding of what can be accomplished together.

The special event is a time for neighborhoods and neighbors to band together, to meet and share thoughts to help make the streets safe and homes a safe haven. It is also geared to help people of the community and the local police department meet each other.

As in the past, there will be a great celebration in Prentis Park, but this year the entire community has also been asked to become involved as possible. Suggested activities include block parties, cookouts, contests, or exhibits to draw neighbors out for friendship. All members of the community can go from block to block, sharing and caring with one another and getting to know what your town is capable of achieving.

Everyone is encouraged to leave their porch lights on.

More news and information will be available about this community-strengthening, crime-fighting event as time draws nearer.

The Vermillion Police Department is extending an invitation to all to please contact them with your thoughts and ideas. Call Detective Crystal Brady at 677-7070.
