Dr. Gera Jacobs, professor of early childhood in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at The University of South Dakota, has been elected affiliate liaison of the governing board of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators.�
"I am honored to be elected to the NAEYC Governing Board," said Jacobs. "I look forward to building on my years of teaching and research to support NAEYC's efforts to serve all young children and their families."
Jacobs taught for 16 years in preschool through eighth-grade classrooms. She has published articles in a number of nationally peer-reviewed and regional journals and presented at state, regional, and national conferences. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching named Jacobs the South Dakota Professor of the Year in 2002.
In addition to Jacobs, NAEYC elected four board members: Jamilah Jor'dan, vice-president, Lori Longueville, secretary, and board members Frank Gettridge and Jane Henderson.�The new members began four-year terms on June 1.
