Head Start continues recruitment

Head Start continues recruitment
Head Start-Pre-Birth through Five at The University of South Dakota is actively recruiting children ages 0 through 5 and expectant families for their Early Head Start and Head Start programs.

Applications are accepted throughout the year for both programs although spring recruiting is being done to fill the preschool centers and home base groups for the 2006-2007 school year. Head Start serves children and families in Clay, Union, Lincoln and Turner Counties.

Head Start is a free comprehensive child development program that assists families and children in education, disabilities, nutrition and health.

Early Head Start offers home base services to children age 0 through 3 and expectant families. Head Start offers center base, home base and full day/full year services to children ages 3 through 5.

Children are served at a preschool center Monday through Thursday for 3 1/2 hours each day. Centers are located in Beresford, Elk Point, Lennox, North Sioux City, Vermillion, and Worthing. Full day/full year services are offered in the Vermillion area. In Canton, children attend the center for three days a week and receive a monthly home visit from their teacher.

The home base program includes Early Head Start and Head Start ages and covers all four counties. Families choosing the home base option have a visitor come into their home for a weekly visit. Together the home visitor and the parent(s)/guardians plan and conduct activities that focus on child development and guide families in developmentally appropriate activities. Expectant families receive visits for prenatal education.
