The Sioux Empire American Red Cross is introducing a new first aid class for people who work, live or play in areas where emergency services are not always readily available. The Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Basics provides more advanced first aid training, especially at times where there could be a delay in notifying emergency personnel of an injury or the time it would take emergency personnel to arrive on the scene.
In particular, people involved in outdoor activities, such as canoeing or kayaking, hiking and backpacking, rock climbing, utility workers in remote areas, farmers and ranchers, snowmobile enthusiasts and numerous other activities could benefit from this class. The 16 hour class is held primarily outside and can be tailored to fit the type of circumstances or weather elements a person might be facing.
