Lana Svien, chair of the department of physical therapy at USD, was presented with a distinguished service award at the Sanford School of Medicine's annual poster presentation and reception on April 25.�
Svien, who received an M.A. in anatomy from the School of Medicine at USD, received a distinguished service award based in part on her long history of working with people with disabilities.�Svien's desire to help the disabled will take her to Israel with a group of USD physical therapy students to fit wheelchairs for children.
Svien received her B.S. in physical therapy from the University of Wisconsin, and her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her research interests include the health-related fitness of children 7-10 who were born preterm and the motor control of children born preterm.�
