Tanager girls second, Brown cited 'outstanding' at state
The Tanager boys' and girls' track teams were in Spearfish on Friday and Rapid City on Saturday, May 26 and 27, participating in the SDHSAA State Track Meet.

Among the 20 qualifying schools of the Class A division, the Tanager girls placed second (49 points), behind St. Thomas More (62). West Central placed third.

Alicia Brown was named Outstanding Performer for Class A girls. She won the 200M dash (25.42) and set a Class A Meet Record (56.59 seconds) in winning the 400M dash. She also anchored the 4x200M relay team to a first-place finish with a new VHS record 1:46.55 and the 4x400M relay team's second place finish with another VHS record time of 4:05.07. The other runners in both relays teams were Nicole Orr, Brittney Babb, and Annie Roche.


Orr placed fifth (25.42) in the 100M hurdles, and third (46.99) in the 300M hurdles. The medley relay team, comprised of Annie Roche, Alexa Walker, Sarah Day and Emily Renner, placed eighth.

In the boys' section, individual event results for Vermillion were: Bobby Dykstra � seventh in the high jump (6'2"); and Ryan Powell � eighth in the 400M dash (52.69).
