The University of South Dakota has been awarded a grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in the Department of Health and Human Services for $378,625 for heart and vascular disease research.
"This is exciting news for USD," said Senator John Thune. "The research conducted at USD and other research universities across the country is important to the advancement of health sciences.
"I am proud of the work that is done at USD and hope that the medical research conducted there will continue to move medicine forward so that more people suffering from disease can be treated and that preventative medicine will result in fewer people needing treatment," he added. "Research and prevention is one way to address the rising cost of health care."
