He will be departing for Cape Verde on July 5 to become a community development volunteer. Smith's work will include technology education and working with local organizations to develop their use of technology.

Smith previously worked at ACS Healthcare Solutions in Cheshire, CT, as a networking consultant.
Smith was attracted to join the Peace Corps because of the travel and career opportunities.
"I love to travel and the Peace Corps is a great way to see a part of the world that I might never have been to otherwise," Smith said. "The Peace Corps is a good starting point for a career in international aid work. My technology experience enabled me to get into a really great program, and it sort of serves as a halfway point between what I've been doing and what I want to do."
