Freidel moved to SF hospital
Mike Freidel, assistant head football coach/defensive coordinator at The University of South Dakota, was transferred this week to the Select Specialty Hospital on the Avera McKennan campus in Sioux Falls. Freidel's medical condition remains serious but stable.

Over the July 8-9 weekend, Freidel was moved from the intensive care unit to an intermediate care floor at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Freidel suffered head trauma as well as injuries to his left eye and arm in an accident on June 19. Freidel is in a coma, which he fell into following the accident.

A "Benefit Fund for Mike Freidel" has been established at Wells Fargo. The fund will help offset medical expenses for coach Freidel. Anyone interested in making a donation to the fund may do so at any Wells Fargo location. Checks should be made payable to the "Benefit Fund for Mike Freidel" and not addressed to an individual's name.

Anyone interested in sending a card or other get-well wishes to the Freidel family can do so at the Select Specialty Hospital, 800 E. 21st Street, Suite 3300, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.

Freidel is in his third season as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for USD and also serves as an assistant professor in the health, physical education and recreation department. Overall, he is in his 26th season as a collegiate coach. He has coached for five seasons at USD and 16 years at Augustana.
