Royce Engstrom, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at USD, presented the award to Lavin during a celebration on July 19 in the conference room of the Al Neuharth Media Center.
Lavin was nominated by a number of colleagues and coworkers for her outstanding work ethic, friendliness and professionalism. Kathy Manning described Lavin's positive influence on everyone around her in her letter of nomination.

"She works hard, she is accurate in her work and she displays the most unbelievable positive attitude no mater what the situation. Whether she has time for you or not, she makes time!" Manning said.
When asked about what she likes most about her job, Lavin said, "I love the people. It's great to work among friends."
Lavin and her husband Chad live in Vermillion. In addition to her great work at USD, Lavin's presence has benefited other organizations. She rides her bike for multiple sclerosis charities, she recently went on a mission trip to Jamaica and she is a proud supporter of athletics at USD, especially the women's basketball team.
