Polish leadership skills at RTEC workshops
If you have recently taken on a new leadership role and you need a few tips to make the transition easier, you won't want to miss this dynamic half-day workshop being sponsored by Yankton's Regional Technical Education Center (RTEC) next month.

Whether you're a new group leader, supervisor or team leader or if you'll soon be chairing or directing a community event or organization, the "Making the Transition from Worker to Leader/Supervisor" workshop will give you the tools you need to become an effective leader.

The workshop was first presented in Yankton during March of this year. However, due to its overwhelming popularity, it has developed into a five-part New Leaders & Supervisors series and will be offered in Yankton, Vermillion and Mitchell.

If you missed the first workshop in Yankton, you are encouraged to attend the Vermillion session on Tuesday, August 1 at the Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce or the Mitchell presentation on Friday, August 4 at the Mitchell Technical Institute's Technology Center.

The workshop will be held twice at each location, allowing you to choose the session which best fits your schedule. You can opt to attend Session A from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or Session B which will run from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is only $49 per attendee for each workshop and payment is due at the time of registration.

The workshops will be presented by Tom Hausmann, the creator of S.M.A.R.T. Training which stands for training that s Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound. During the "Transition" training, Hausmann will teach you key strategies to help you overcome the stumbling blocks that most people encounter when they take on a new role.

You'll learn how to motivate others to perform, how to address inappropriate behavior, when you need to delegate, the proper way to offer feedback and much more. Best of all, you'll discover the practical strategies that will help you succeed in your new leadership role right away.

The remainder of the New Leaders & Supervisors series will follow once everyone in the region has had an opportunity to attend the "Transition" workshop. The second workshop, Guiding Performance, will be offered at each location in late August. The third, Communication Strategies, will be presented in September; the fourth, Building Relationships, will follow in October and the final workshop, Understanding Your Business, will conclude the series in November.
