Vermillion's Post #1 wins fourth straight in 3B Tourney
In Game #8 on the fourth day of the Region 3B Tournament, Lennox ousted Dakota Valley 15-5, in five innings.

Post #1 was again assigned visitor status in the ninth tournament game against Elk Point/Jefferson #134. If you prefer a tight pitchers duel, you were in the wrong place, as the teams combined for 31 runs and 40 hits in the 12-inning shoot out.

Vermillion's Jeff Donnelly started but couldn't go beyond an inning as he gave up five runs on four hits, a couple of walks, and a team error. Ryan Gilbertson relieved and went seven innings, giving up seven runs on 15 hits.


Scott Morrison took over in the ninth and went the rest of the way, registering two Ks, and was charged with three runs on three hits. He was the winning pitcher.

Line score: Post #134 � 15 R, 21 H, 3 E, 19 lob; Post #1 � 16 R, 19 H, 3 E, 16 lob.

Scoring stats for Post #1 were: Ben Oberle � 2 for 7, 2 runs, 1 rbi; Reid Meierkort � 4 for 7, 2 runs, 3 rbi; Kyle Mollet � 1 for 7, 2 runs; Scott Morrison � 4 for 8, 3 runs, 1 rbi; Jeff Donnelly � 2 for 4, 2 runs, 3 rbi; Zach Weiss � 1 for 5, 1 run, 1 rbi; Ryan Gilbertson � 3 for 6, 1 run, 3 rbi; Jerrod Freidel � 2 for 2, 1 run.

Vermillion (4-0) will face Lennox (3-1) in a return match for the championship. See next week's Plain Talk for results.
