This is the second time in her career that Martinez has picked up the league's weekly honor, with the first coming during the 2002 season.
A native of Aurora, CO, Martinez was the lynchpin in a Coyote defense that did not allow a goal in 210:57 worth of action last weekend while going 1-0-1. She started off the weekend by backstopping USD to just the third 0-0 double-overtime tie in program history by making two saves at Winona State on Friday. Her second save was by far the most important as Martinez turned away a shot with only 19 seconds left on the clock to preserve the draw.
On Sunday, Martinez recorded her second straight shutout and first win of the season in leading South Dakota to a 1-0 double-overtime victory at Concordia-St. Paul. She notched three saves in the winning effort.
Martinez is tied for first in the NCC statistical rankings in goals against average (0.00), save percentage (1.000) and shutouts (2), and is fifth in saves (5). She stands as USD's all-time career leader in saves (282) and has a career record of 26-22-1. Martinez also has 16 shutouts to her credit during the course of her career.
