The Yankton Valley of the Scottish Rite Bodies of South Dakota has awarded $1,000 in book grants to area students who will be attending higher education institutions in South Dakota.
Archie Ireland 33, past director of the Scottish Rite Foundation of South Dakota, Inc., stated that 10 students will receive $100 each to help offset costs of higher education.
Receiving the grant from the local area is Kara Rasmussen graduating from Vermillion High School. She will be attending Augustana College. The award was presented by Brian Holcomb.
In addition to awarding book grants to graduating high school seniors the Scottish Rite sponsors three clinics for children with speech, language and other communication difficulties. These clinics are located at The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, the Masonic Center in Sioux Falls and the Children's Care Hospital and School Outreach in Rapid City. Also, the Foundation awards several $1,000 fellowships each year to students pursuing graduate degrees in the field of speech and communication studies at The University of South Dakota.
