Second phase of Dakota Street reconstruction is scheduled to begin
On Aug. 17 or 18, the contractor for the Dakota Street reconstruction project, Sioux City Engineering, will start phase two of the work. The contractor will start phase two of the work by removing pavement from Dakota Street between Clark Street and Cherry Street.

The intersection of Dakota Street and Clark Street will be closed to all traffic while the removal of the surface takes place. Pavement removal for Dakota Street from Clark Street to Cherry Street is expected to take one week. A gravel crossing will be installed at the Clark Street and Dakota Street intersection on or before Aug. 25 to assist students returning to campus for the fall semester. The Clark Street and Dakota Street intersection will be closed at different times while utilities are reconstructed in or across the intersection.

Dakota Street from Main Street to Cedar Street will be reopened to traffic before phase two of the project begins. Cedar Street and National Street traffic will be able to access Dakota Street from the east.


There will not be access for eastbound Cedar Street and National Street traffic onto Dakota Street while the approach concrete cures and related work is completed. North and south traffic on Dakota Street will be possible during this week.

Some work will continue to take place along Dakota Street between Main Street and Clark Street while Phase two construction is underway. This work includes items such as installing streetlights and sealing the pavement joints.

Traffic cones will be utilized to block off those areas while maintaining two-way traffic. Motorists are asked to utilize caution when driving this area.

A notice will also be sent once the exact date for the street closure is determined. This notice is intended to provide an initial notice of upcoming traffic pattern change.
